I am totally sold on the app Briar. It is what Anom claimed to be.

Briar functions locally over Bluetooth or your LAN, but remotely it uses the Tor network for infrastructure.

Which means it has no infrastructure of its own. It also means you cannot receive messages if you're offline, since there is no one to buffer them for you.

It also means draws more battery for having a tunnel running in the background.

Correction, the sender buffers the messages until you're online again. Also the developers are working on a type of self hosted mailbox service that could buffer them for you.
